A Rip in the Trojans
Everyone guarantees that USC will play for their third national championship, but the SPORTS NUT is crazy enough to say we'll be Bowl-ing without the Trojans.

There hasn't been one person to say that USC won't make it to the Rose Bowl this year. It's the perfect storybook ending to Matt Leinart's amazing career as a Trojan, and everyone has it planned out so well. He'll win the Heisman, becoming the second person ever to win it twice. He'll be the MVP of the Rose Bowl and take home USC's third straight national championship. Well, I hate storybook endings, and I love playing the devil's advocate.

I'm gonna be the crazy bastard who says USC will not be in Pasadena on January 4, 2006. USC has a lot going for them: a great coach, veteran players, and a kid who decided to come back to school after gaining so much fame and attention last year. So, I'm nuts, but I have one thing working in my favor: history.

You don't have to think back too far to remember Jason White. He won the Heisman and came back for another season, but thanks to an injury he and his Sooners didn't fair as well the next year. Also, when you look through past champions, no other team has been able to sustain such a long run of national championship caliber football. Sure, Miami had their run in the 80s and Alabama in the 60s, but neither of those two teams straight out won or shared the championship for three straight years. (Props to LSU in 2003, though!)
